Calanasan – Home of the Eagle

Found at the northernmost part of Apayao, Calanasan features the limestone mountain Mt. Kilang. Standing at 1,656m, the mountain is the town’s 2nd highest point. It is particularly breathtaking to witness at dawn when  sea of clouds rolls in and envelops the summit. Also dubbed the “home of the giants”, the town cradles the mighty Philippine eagle, the towering lauan trees, and the giant rafflesia flower. Don’t leave without tasting the local smoked meats and the bamboo-cooked sinursur. One notable fact about this place is that it’s the hometown of Apayao’s founding father, the late Elias K. Bulut. He pushed for the separation of the conflicting Kalinga-Apayao in 1995.
